PHBT AWARDS
For six years the Trust has run an annual History Project for Year 7 Pupils at Secondary Schools in Pembrokeshire.  “The project should be on a Medieval building in Pembrokeshire such as the Cathedral, a monastery, a Bishop’s Palace, a castle, a church or town walls.  Projects could also include Medieval communities (a town or monastery) and methods of transport at the time.”

The Trust sets a number of criteria; each school identifies the best 5 or 6 projects in English and Welsh and then judges who are often members of the Trust select the best projects for a series of prizes and commendations.

At the November 2011 presentation, which was hosted by the Chairman of the County Council, Mr Graham Longster the Director of Education gave a short talk on “History in our Schools”.  Cllr Huw George, Cabinet Member for Children, Young People, Learning and the Welsh Language also assisted with the prize giving.  The Trust is indebted to the County Council for the use of County Hall and for the provision of a buffet which was enjoyed by the pupils and accompanying staff and to the Morgan Trust for sponsoring the Scheme.

The Trust is hoping for a full complement of schools to take place in the 2012 History Project.

THE WESTERN TELEGRAPH MYSTERY PICTURE QUIZ - 2011
Last year brought the return mystery pictures of Pembrokeshire in the Western Telegraph and we have some familiar faces wining the two prizes. Runner up was Mrs. Maureen George from Maenclochog who received a book kindly provided The Western Telegraph. The winner with all 12 correct was again Mr Rob Scourfield from Cresswell Quay who received a book by local author Mr Simon Hancock on Historic Haverfordwest and a new trophy made by The Slate Workshop, Llangolman.

In a recent presentation at Hayston Developments and Planning Ltd offices (sponsor) the Chairman Of the Historic Buildings Trust – Mr. William George stated that a number of people have commented that they welcomed the return of the picture quiz over the Christmas period. The Chairman Mr. George went on to say:

“Since last year’s quiz one of the historic buildings of Landshipping House has undergone some extensive renovation works and was a family home again. The quiz offers the opportunity to show off some wonderful conservation work recently done, but at the same time point out some buildings which need some care and attention”.

Andrew Vaughan-Harries, Mrs Maureen George, Rob Scourfield & Mr William George

Mr.Andrew Vaughan-Harries, Director of Hayston Developments & Planning Ltd Consultancy and Member of Pembrokeshire Historic Buildings Trust, helped re-launch the quiz with some of his own photographs and made a final selection with other members of the PHBT.

He commented:

“I have put together a new set of photographs from my travels through the year, some will be familiar others a bit more tricky. There is more diverse mix of buildings of all ages chosen this year with some very special conservation work hi-lighted.”

Andrew has again also agreed to now sponsor the event with the winners receiving a book prize and trophy for 12 months.
